In Defense of the Wild: Roberto Cavalli Fall 2023 Collection

Fausto Puglisi enters “No man’s land” with this Southwest-inspired collection

The Roberto Cavalli woman is fierce. Wherever her adventure may take her, she moves wildly. Her accessorization is unbridled, her prints are exuberant, and her spirit is free – a trademark of the Italian house. This season, designer Fausto Puglisi doesn’t just dip into Cavalli-core, he falls head first into it.

The Fall 2023 ready-to-wear collection transports the Cavalli woman into the American southwest, drawing upon a warm and earthy color palette to root the wildest of muses in the desert sand. Denim blues and blacks meet with a touch of pink to round out the rusty aesthetics.

Faux fur, perfected at the hand of Japanese tailoring, and denim take center stage. Shredded to the point of shagginess, a pair of bell bottoms become fur-like, highlighting the animalistic energy that courses through the collection.

In another nod to the desert around us, the Cavalli woman makes careful use of turquoise stones, which gleam throughout the show as opulent jewelry pieces and practical buttons on a blazer or a pair of jeans. Dressed up or down, we are made to understand that individual interpretation is key: what I see is mine, and what you see is yours.

In a hedonistic celebration of materials, prints, patchwork, and devoré mingle as Cavalli’s traditional focus on materiality grows to new heights. On the runway, the fabrics move like water as shirts flood open, kimonos stream behind. Floor-length dresses flow and wooly coats pour onto the runway — a creative oasis in a boundless desert land.
