In Remembrance of Talented Model and Rapper: Chynna

The model-turned-rapper has died at just 25 years old.

Unfortunate news has shocked the fashion industry and hip-hop world as the model and rapper, Chynna passed away in her hometown of Philadelphia late Wednesday night. The cause of death is still unknown, but her manager John Miller regrettably confirmed the passing in a statement. Her family has opened up expressing, “Chynna was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.” She was 25 years old.

Chynna Rodgers was originally discovered by Ford Models during a trip to the Six Flags amusement park in New Jersey. Growing in confidence, the young model did catalog work, appeared in a runway show for DKNY, and was featured in their denim campaign. At 15 years old, the model was approached by ASAP Yams and asked to be his intern. Building a friendship, he encouraged her to tap into her individual creativity and write her own rhymes. Eventually, her claim to fame in the music industry blossomed through her association with A$AP Mob, with her viral hit singles being “Selfie” and “Glen Coco” respectively in 2013 and 2014. Last year marked the release of her first EP, In Case I Die First.

An outpour of grief, memories, and pain was shared by those who had the pleasure of knowing Chynna or being touched by the artist including Kelhani, Vince Staples, A$AP Mob, and more. Rapper Tierra Whack shared a troubling realization that “We can’t even go to funerals.”

The hip-hop industry has been stricken with death and the current widespread effects of the coronavirus make it difficult to comprehend that Chynna is no longer with us. “She was an extremely inspirational and unique artist and person,” Mr. Miller said. Her legacy will continue and her titles of being a sister, beautiful model, friend, talented rapper, songwriter, daughter, and proud Philadelphia native will live on.
