In “The Hunt,” Marc Jacobs Turns a Stranger’s Bag Into a Trail of Clues

The brand continues its episodic Scene Bag mystery, with Jeremy O. Harris narrating Rowan Blanchard & Jemima Kirke’s search for one another
Marc Jacobs is picking back up the case of the switched handbags. “The Hunt,” the second chapter of “The Swap,” sends stars Rowan Blanchard and Jemima Kirke back out into New York City to track down their belongings after a runway-show mix-up left them each carrying the wrong bag.
The setup dates back to the first chapter of “The Swap,” part of the brand’s ongoing Question Marc series. Blanchard and Kirke were seated near each other at a Marc Jacobs runway show, both carrying the brand’s Scene Bag, and left with each other’s identical bag by mistake. “The Hunt” continues directly from there, following the two actresses as they dig through the contents of the bags they’re stuck with, using what they find as the only clues to figure out who the other woman is and where to find her. The haul includes sage, a set of keys, a taser and an unfinished Icee, with the drink providing the chapter’s sharpest twist. When Kirke notices the Icee is still cold, it becomes evidence that Blanchard, the stranger she’s chasing, might be nearer than she realizes.

Playwright and actor Jeremy O. Harris narrates the search, leaning into the material’s absurdity as the two women’s search stretches into an increasingly chaotic tour of the city. The commentary does double duty, keeping the tone light while underlining the campaign’s real hook: that a handful of random objects can tell you almost everything about a stranger and almost nothing at all.
Question Marc is Marc Jacobs’ ongoing attempt to blur the line between a fashion campaign and a piece of entertainment, released in short chapters across the brand’s social channels rather than as a single ad drop. Each installment is built to extend the last one, adding new detail to its characters and to the objects tying them together. The Scene Bag remains at the center of the story, doubling as both plot device and the product the campaign is meant to showcase.

“The Hunt” is the second of three chapters in “The Swap.” Marc Jacobs has said the story’s final installment will follow on the brand’s social channels, where Blanchard and Kirke’s characters are expected to finally catch up with one another.
