RSVP: Jason Wu’s Invite-Only Halloween Soirée
Themed “Category Is: Victor/Victoria”, the film-inspired night was as picturesque as the 1982 movie.
Canadian-Tawainese fashion designer Jason Wu transformed L’Chalet Bar at Saks Fifth Avenue’s L’Avenue into a high fashion Halloween celebration on Friday night. Dressed in an all-black, ruffling ensemble and sporting a full face of makeup, Wu hosted the party themed “Category Is: Victor/Victoria”, taking the crowd of creatives back to the 1982 Julie Andrews film.
The movie’s overarching themes of gender provided the perfect stimulus for costume inspiration, and Wu’s crowd certainly exceeded expectations. Tina Leung, who co-hosted the evening’s festivities along with David Vivirido and Phillip Picardi, showed out in an eye-catching look that juxtaposed a flowing white dress with bright denim overalls with sliced makeup to match the duality of her clothing. Arriving dressed to impress, intricately-crafted angels contrasted hauntingly real skeletons and clowns, while impressively bold makeup looks complemented spooky, complex masks across the venue. As guests physically embodied the fluidity of Victor/Victoria, the movie-inspired night paid respectful homage to the artistry of film history.
As Silvia Prada’s music echoed across L’Chalet, glameratti posed for picutres, mingled over each other’s costumes, and took to the dance floor. Among fashion’s elite, Brian Atwood, James Turlington, Athena Calderone, Andre Mellone, Yasmine Petty, and several others were in attendance at Wu’s thrilling party.
