Inside the Fendi Baguette Party
The highly coveted accessory continues to inspire outfit envy and pop-cultural cameos.
The cult of It-bags is a trail of breadcrumbs leading to the Fendi Baguette. Since the Ur-accessory, a compact confection designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi, debuted in 1997, the Baguette has inspired generations of fashionistas, with Sex and the City cameos and a never-ending cycle of styles—over 1,000 to date. The bag’s allure was on full-gloss display at the #BaguetteFriendsForever party last night, held at the luxury house’s Madison Avenue flagship. Heralding the reissue of four signature styles, the event lured a caravan of celebrities and models to toast the Baguette’s ever-rising appeal.
Embodying the night’s hashtag, comrades Emma Roberts and Amanda Seyfried walked the red carpet together, trading memories of the It-bag as a girlhood status symbol. “Every time I saw a girl wearing [a Baguette] I would covet it,” Roberts said in an interview with Fendi. “I got my first one at a second-hand shop… There was a big thing with matching at school.” Added Seyfried: “I always wanted all of my best friend’s clothing!” Proving that some things never change, the pair served equal parts friendship goals and Baguette envy, toting two complementary new styles—Roberts’s a pink monogrammed edition and Seyfried’s the black leather counterpart.
