In an ethereal, flamboyant display of cosmic silver and vibrant blue, deep fuschia and striking violet hues, Isabel Marant reincarnates ‘80s icons into today’s “it girl” with their Spring/Summer ‘21 collection.

The French fashion brand translates bold silhouettes and fresh prints and fabrics into a rebellious attitude and clothing collection; the slow burn of escape, of going out, of freedom and space is evoked in garments to conquer the dullness, recalling Debbie Harry and Kim Wilde’s energetic spirits in their designs.

Versatile looks retain day to night fluidity; an oversized metallic purple jacket can be left at the nightclub’s coat check or worn to brunch, and short skirts and mini shorts reveal legs for afternoon walks in the city or midnight dances.

The lamé pieces in the collection yearn to be under the spotlights, while strapless dresses and asymmetrical designs call out to shoulders, hips and collarbones. Strappy sandals with feminine bows and ruffles give the perfect lift for a dainty finish, while cowboy boots in white, red, blue or purple are for the bold and the brave.

The collection is a celebration of love, a bacchanal of bodies culminating in a flourish of dauntless and delicate looks. The Isabel Marant wearer wavers between woman and man with men’s bulky, overgrown silhouettes and colors merge with women’s wardrobe and proportions. Standout pieces include a magnificent purple velvet cropped blazer with embellished white detailing, an oversized red coat with an oversized silhouette, and white cowboy boots with a kiss of blue striped detailing.

The runway show was staged and choreographed by the (LA)HORDE collective, utilizing a group of dancers expressing Marant’s vision of vitality and quest for exaltation in their movements, transforming energy into movement, heat into light, and love into fashion.
