Homme Plissé Issey Miyake is modernizing the meaning of basic in their Fall/Winter 2021 collection, Never Change, Ever Change. 

In an innovative homage to their traditional means of production, Issey Miyake Inc. presents their latest collection via a diverse range of models that defy the conventions of the single point runway through quick and slow choreographed movements.

The modern man’s closet is pleated, making for a visual aesthetic that best fits the busy man who is always on the move. Using hand-drawn motifs of African-inspired baskets, jersey fabric in sharp silhouettes, chambray fabric for their shoes, and 100% recycled polyester fabric, the collection integrates original ideas that embody their desire to evolve into the new age of fashion and technology. 

The brash sound of the sewing machine serves as the backdrop for a lively soundtrack that highlights the contrast between the easy to mix aspect in the black and white garments in Never Change, Ever Change to the playful, ‘understated’ color palette also in the collection. As models walk, march, play, and dance, they reveal a collection featuring pants integrated with a waist apron, slim, short-length jackets, double sleeve coats, and their third pair of shoes in their shoe project with WAKOUWA.

Towards the end of the video, as they gathered around the platform to reveal the gradation of colors in the collection, one can’t help but marvel at the carefully constructed detailing hidden within the sharp suits in silhouetted fit, and double sleeve coats. With an eye for design, Never Change, Ever Change is able to quite literally use pleating to re-mold the conventional closet staple garment.
