It’s Breonna Taylor’s Birthday, Say Her Name
Concrete ways YOU can take action and bring justice for Breonna Taylor.
From a young age, Black children are given burdens they have no option but to carry. Black parents teach their kids how to behave when faced with Law Enforcement…
I was taught to be hyperaware, deescalate the situation. Always announce what you are doing, ask “Can I grab my license? Be aware of your surroundings and know your rights if you were to get pulled over. Be polite, “Yes sir, No Sir.” The list goes on, and on. Undoubtedly every Black family has had ‘the talk’ with their kids, but how can you prepare someone for the situation that ended Breonna Taylor’s life on March 13? Struck eight times with bullets in her sleep. Her sleep. Her home.
This nightmare was brought on by a drug raid where plainclothed police officers forced themselves into the home of Breonna Taylor and boyfriend, Kenneth Walker unannounced in Louisville, Kentucky. No drugs were found and her killers still roam free.
It was announced earlier this morning that Breonna Taylor’s case was just reopened. But Breonna Taylor’s birthday is Friday, June 5 and in order to bring justice for Breonna Taylor, say her name. Don’t rest until the police involved in the murder of Breonna Taylor are not only charged but found guilty.
