J. Crew and Eckhaus Latta Creative an Iconic Collaboration

The two brands released a limited-edition collection reimagining beloved pieces
What started with Eckhaus Latta’s recreation of J. Crew’s Rollneck continues with a limited-edition collection imagined by the two brands. The goal was to reinterpret icons much like the Rollneck, taking familiar signatures and making something new. Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta perused old J. Crew catalogs for inspiration, pulling archival looks the brand made famous in the ’90s. They reimagined the Barn jacket, pleated skirts, outerwear, chinos, and more, giving each piece a makeover with a touch of Eckhaus Latta’s aesthetic. Still, each remains rooted in the history and symbolism of J. Crew.

“The inspiration for us was really J.Crew. It is an iconic American brand with a rich heritage. We rummaged through a lot of its catalogs from the ’90s as points of reference. That period was our childhood, so our aesthetics and tastes will always be shaped by it,” said Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta.
The collection welcomed the coming fall with thick knit sweaters and a reimagined Barn jacket. Sweaters were paired with pleated skirts in both mini and midi lengths, while chinos received a modern update, cinched with leather belts. Elsewhere, denim in varying washes brought a more casual attitude to the collection.

For the editorial shoot accompanying the drop, the brands took over a classical townhouse, using the stately setting as a backdrop for the collection. That same world carried into the launch celebration, held in a similarly grand townhouse. Guests partied under crystal chandeliers, played beer pong, and sported various pieces of knitwear. In the background, walls were covered in oil paintings, while bookshelves held an impressive collection of novels. Among the star-studded guest list was the cast of FX’s The Shards, who did what they do best…party like it’s the ’80s.
