Jacquemus Voyages to Hawaii for Spring/Summer 2022 Collection ‘Le Splash’
The buzzy French brand unveiled a summer-ready collection of check separates and breezy dresses.
From sprawling runways in the lavender fields of Provence to beach side showings in Marseille, Simon Porte Jacquemus has never been one to shy away from embracing the intricacies of Mother Nature. After all, the French brand’s slinky bandeaus and relaxed suiting blend seamlessly to serene locales. Now, Jacquemus has journeyed to the beaches of Oahu, Hawaii where the brand showcased its latest Spring/Summer 2022 offering.
Fresh off the heels of Paris Fashion Week, guests made the arduous journey—about 18 hours by plane–to the quaint beachside Moli’i Gardens. Bigshot celebrities and friends of the brands such as Jennie of BLACKPINK, Jhené Aiko, SZA, and Bretman Rock all showed their support to the enigmatic brand. Though the runway show was delayed by an hour due to inclement weather, it was well worth the wait—a deep blue path overlaid the supple sand while guests were perched on rounded stools.
Opening the show with a handful of muted beige looks, Jacquemus signatures were on full display: oversized cotton suiting, asymmetrical bodysuits, and lots of breathable layering. For the 32-year-old designer, the move to show in Hawaii was an attempt to broaden the Jacquemus muse. No longer a chic Parisian or native of the South of France, the Jacquemus consumer is international and complex, and of course, loves the sun.
As the show progressed, punches of color appeared—powder blue, lime green, and eggshell yellow—and gingham prints were seen on flowing outerwear and cut-to-perfection swimsuits. Per usual with the French label, accessories were sartorial talking points. Terry cloth sandals, scuba-shaped bags, and brightly colored options were new ventures for the designer. Of course, iterations of the brand’s siganture ‘Le Chiquito’ and ‘Le Bambino’ bags made appearances.
With women’s and men’s offerings, Jacquemus re-upped his commitment to versatile, color-infused separates that are equal parts trendy as they are fashionably desirable. Too, the brand hired a team of Hawaiian models, stylists, and production staff as a sign of appreciation to the local community.
Jacquemus’ Spring/Summer 2022 collection—the first time a major fashion house has shown in Hawaii—was one to remember. After the show, guests mingled and danced while soaking in the surreal coastal views of Oahu highlighting the community-like following of the brand. Surely, guests and followers of the label will be waiting to see where Simon Porte Jacquemus decides to journey to next. Any guesses?
