JAY-Z’s Team Roc Demands A Fair Trial for Ahmaud Arbery in Open Letter to Georgia Officials
The official statement was signed by JAY-Z, Alicia Keys, Meek Mill, and Yo Gotti.
JAY-Z’s Team Roc sent a public letter to Georgia Officials demanding justice for Ahmaud Arbery, published in the latest issue of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, after his tragic killing while jogging in Brunswick, Georgia. Two whole months after Arbery’s passing, Gregory and Travis McMichael have finally been arrested for murder and aggravated assault charges.
Signed by JAY-Z, Alicia Keys, Meek Mill, and Yo Gotti, the letter calls for District Attorney Tom Durden to excuse himself from the case, pointing to a conflict of interest due to Gregory McMichael’s past in the police force. Further, the letter requests a fair trial and the citing of William Bryan as an armed accomplice.
“Ahmaud was a loving son, a brother and a positive role model in the community,” the letter reads. “He was a human being. He was also African-American which, sadly, means that he was a target. Still. And, on this Mother’s Day—just two days after what would have been Ahmaud’s 26th birthday—we simply cannot and will not stand for another black mother who must spend the day mourning the loss of her black son because of the color of his skin.”
