Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring/Summer 2022 Collection Stuns At PFW

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring/Summer 2022 Haute Couture collection by Glenn Martens showcases lavish garments and intricate embroideries.

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring/Summer collection by Glenn Martens is one for the books. The line featured ornate garments, elaborate designs, and detailed delineations premiered during Paris Fashion Week’s Haute Couture segment. In a recent interview with Women’s Wear Daily, the acclaimed designer and Creative Director of Diesel and Y/Project shared his vision for creating cosmic-like gowns for this line as he “didn’t want to squander this once in a lifetime opportunity to live the couturier dream” as told by the publication.

Models graced the dimly lit location, the only light cascading on the collection’s pieces as each took center stage one after the other. As a collective, the captivating assemblage featured symmetrical cuts with distinguished lines of demarcation visible on the article’s exterior with other looks containing transparent, ruffled, and form-fitting veils, spike embellishments, swaddled styles, and more. The collection’s two-piece fashions also encompassed similar designs, pants mirroring the uppermost articles.

Voluminous gowns and ones of a more concise nature embodied fishtail trains, traveling down the runway with each step. Several nearly reached the floor, all accompanied by sleek platform heels (some strapped at the ankle) and boots in shades of fire hydrant red, black, translucent mahogany, and pearl. These hues reflected each composition’s tinge and overall color palette filled with nearly-navy blues, golds, violets, tiger, emerald, and more, with exceptional ear jewelry complementing the looks’ singular essence.

“Glenn Martens has proven that he has the necessary creativity for adapting to the mindset of various ready-to-wear labels, all while developing his own,” Jean Paul Gaultier told V last September. “I can’t wait for January to see what he has in store for our 2022 Spring/Summer Haute Couture line.”

Fast forward to now: it is nothing short of ingenuity and innovation.
