Jennifer Lopez Announces Netflix Documentary “Halftime”
The documentary will show J. Lo reflecting on her career, while preparing for her critically acclaimed performance at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show.
Jennifer Lopez will be the subject of a new documentary set to premiere on June 8 on the opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival, before heading to Netflix on June 14. The premiere will take place at United Palace in Washington Heights, near J. Lo’s hometown of the Bronx.
“HALFTIME” will follow Lopez as she reflects on her legendary career and life outside of music, including her activism and her life as a mom, all while gearing up to perform in the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show with Shakira.
“We’re thrilled to open with ‘HALFTIME,’ an inspirational documentary that spotlights Jennifer Lopez’s activism through her iconic Super Bowl halftime show,” says Tribeca Festival Co-Founder and Tribeca Enterprises CEO Jane Rosenthal. “We’re eager to premiere this beautiful exploration of J. Lo’s Latina culture and heritage at the United Palace, just blocks away from the Bronx.”
The film was directed by Tribeca alum Amanda Micheli, and promises to give viewers a glimpse at the real J. Lo, outside of the spotlight, as she navigates fame and motherhood while trying to use her voice for good.
“Powerful storytelling — whether in music, film, or games — encourages us to fight for universal values that bind humanity together,” says Tribeca Festival Co-Founder Robert De Niro. “‘HALFTIME,’ featuring Jennifer Lopez, reminds us of that.”
The announcement of the documentary came just days after the news broke of J. Lo’s engagement to Ben Affleck, though Bennifer 2.0 will not be featured in the film.
The Tribeca Film Festival will take place at locations throughout New York City from June 8-19.
