Joji Drops Music Video for “Upgrade” and Announces Livestream Event

The R&B star dropped a music video for “Upgrade” and announced plans for a ticketed livestream event via Instagram.

Japanese singer / songwriter Joji returned to the R&B music scene with a bang. Earlier this week, he released his highly anticipated sophomore album Nectar. Yesterday, he dropped a new music video for his single  “Upgrade”. Today, he announced plans for an upcoming livestream event titled “The Extravaganza”.

First, let’s talk about that music video. Wow. Shot using retro VHS footage (like the one your parents used back in the day to film every birthday party ever), Joji stars in a music video where he not only sings in the midst of an international flight, he also defies gravity and eats a glazed donut before our very eyes. The video features an entire crew who perform a choreographed dance and also get to float in the middle of this seemingly empty flight.

“Upgrade” is featured in the track list for Nectar. This release follows the music videos for Gimmie Love, Sanctuary, Tick Tock, Run, Your Man, and Daylight, which were also dropped in anticipation of the album.

And in his characteristically humorous and bizarre fashion, Joji also announced a “unique livestream event” via Instagram. The trailer for the event features a musical circus act presented by smiling circus performers who stand in front of a curtain to introduce a screaming bloody Joji. He appears to freak out over a bloody nose, only the sounds of his screaming are drowned out by loud circus music.

While the cause of the nosebleed is unknown, we do know that it appears to be a part of whatever this event is going to be about. If it’s anything like this Youtube days, it’s sure to be an interesting time.
