Famed handbag designer Judith Leiber has died at the age of 97. Born in Hungary, Leiber took an apprenticeship with a top bag creator in Budapest which led to her eventual immigration to the U.S. in the wake of World War II.  The acclaimed designer was best known for her signature minaudières carried by many a First Lady, including Mamie Eisenhower, Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, and Hillary Clinton. Other notable faces who have been coined as carriers of Leiber's handbags include Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo, Björk, Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Barbara Walters.

Leiber was the recipient of a multitude of awards, including a Coty award, Neiman Marcus award, and in 1994, the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to the world of fashion and design. Rest in peace Judith Leiber.
