Since TMZ broke the news that Justin Bieber proposed to girlfriend Hailey Baldwin in the Bahamas on Sunday, the American people have been busily reconstructing a complete history of the happy couple’s courtship. While their on-and-off tryst has been widely documented—thanks largely to the specter of Selena Gomez—little was known about how BiebWin (BaldBiebs?) met in the first place—other than that they’d known each other “since I was so young,” as Baldwin told E! News in 2014.

Alas, the element of mystery seldom lasts in this day and age. Soon, reports emerged that the pair met at the premiere of Bieber’s 2009 documentary Never Say Never, which Baldwin attended with her father, “Actor/Producer” Stephen Baldwin, when she was 14 and Bieber 16. Now, a video of that fateful meeting has emerged—and, naturally, become a meme.

The cringey clip sees Stephen Baldwin approaching the young, swoopy-banged Bieber before introducing his daughter Hailey, who is busy crossing her arms and affecting nonchalance. Perhaps most mortifyingly, the clip ends on Bieber holding a gift given to him by Stephen Baldwin—a skateboarding DVD apparently produced by Baldwin himself. So in the end, addition to revealing the origins of this flaxen-haired power couple, the video is also a good preview of Bieber’s stocking stuffers for the next 50 years.
