Justin Bieber Is The Newest Face Of Balenciaga
The Biebs is taking his elevated street style into the luxury fashion realm.
Coming off the heels of the DIY Runner sneaker drop, Balenciaga has just made another huge announcement: Justin Bieber is the new face of its upcoming campaign.
For the new campaign, each model sports a Balenciaga wardrobe consisting of ready-to-wear and accessory styles made to carry over for multiple seasons. These iconic items express some of Balenciaga’s consistent themes, including “elevated essentials”.
Through Instagram, the Spanish luxury house released a series of portraits shot by Katy Grannan. Known for her fascination with “anonymous people,” Grannan’s photographs capture straight-faced subjects staring almost lazily at the camera in a recreated the Los Angeles parking lot.
Shared in three phases through its Instagram page, Balenciaga showcased its new collection on several talents. Most notably, Bieber and legendary French actress, Isabelle Huppert. The campaign also features models that have worked with the house in the past, including: Awar Adhiero Odhiang, Anania Orgeas, Isabelle Weldon Herouard, Minttu Vesala, Litay Marcus, Angel aka Emmanuel Culkin Mugisha, Abdou Diop, Taishi Suzuki, Hans Schmidt and Eliza Douglas.
Bieber is seen in the house’s sturdy new sneakers, – which are made to appear at once worn in and pieced together from various shoe patterns – the reworked Neo Classic bag, an oversized leather jacket, a hoodie and trackpants. Known for his baggy, elevated street style, Bieber is the perfect fit for the ready-to-wear campaign.
Huppert dons an off-the-shoulder trench coat, holding a Balenciaga Hourglass bag — a slightly more sophisticated look fitting of the cinema icon.
Other looks include a hoodie with the house name printed on the front and a vibrant blue Le Cagole bag, named for the French colloquialism meaning “over-the-top.” These looks are understated overstatements, where essential pieces meet sophisticated accessories and garments.
Oversized appears to be the name of the game in this campaign. With an oversized button-up, track pants and sunglasses, and even an extra chunky metallic necklace, this ready-to-wear is a bold deep dive into the themes Balenciaga has developed over the years.
Balenciaga cleared off their Instagram to present this campaign. Ten looks are featured on their page, including swipe pictures with close-up shots of accessories such as sneakers and Le Cagole bags in a variety of colors. Head to the house’s page to get a closer look.
