JW Anderson Unveils New 2021 Fall Collections

Their Men’s AW21 and Women’s PF21 lookbooks pride the animate with the inanimate

JW Anderson is diving into the Fall season with more of an edible taste. Their new collections pride gender ambiguity, abstract shapes, and, above all, fruits and vegetables. If you weren’t getting the doctor recommended dose of nutrients, this one might be for you.

Designed by Jonathan Anderson and styled by Benjamin Bruno, the collection lookbook features shapes and silhouettes of all different kinds splayed across both genders. Color is not a barrier, with primaries, neutrals, monotones, animal prints, and graphic designs making their way into the looks. Sculpted robes and jumpsuits are featured alongside puffed sleeves, wide-legged flare pants, and oversized trenches, all with a remarkable sense of tailoring and detail.

The collection lookbook was shot by Juergen Teller in his first collaboration with Anderson. “Juergen has a very graphic eye and that’s exactly what these collections needed,” says Anderson. The models are shot as living sculptures amid walled and natural backgrounds. British model and actress Sophie Okonedo CBE is the star of the lookbook, adorning the entire women’s Pre-Fall 2021 Collection by her lonesome.

The key aspect of the collection is the use of fruits and vegetables across it. Peach-emblazoned sweatshirts and radish-ridden sweaters are paired with cabbages, cauliflower, gourds, etc. “Bodies turn into living sculptures, aided by the clothing and the vegetables which are a presence throughout the images. Glorified like in Dutch still life painting, vegetables are printed onto a few of the items as well,” explained Anderson in a letter about his collection.

The entire Men’s Autumn Winter 2021 and Women’s Pre-Fall 2021 Collections are available on the JW Anderson website.
