Katsuya Brings Signature Flair To New York City Location

Your new Manhattan go-to spot has finally arrived.

Having been a staple in the West Coast for many years, the globally praised culinary concept from SBE’s Disruptive Restaurant Group (DRG) and renowned Master Sushi Chef Katsuya Uechi sees a new home in the concrete jungle. Taking space in Citizens New York, the newly opened culinary destination set along the high-line joins Casa Dani—the highly-rated Southern Spanish restaurant from Michelin-starred Chef Dani Garcia— as the second and final newly added restaurant experience within the new luxe food hub.

Having first opened back in the heart of Brentwood, California in 2006 by SBE founder, Sam Nazarian with Chef Uechi, the high caliber dining spot mixed with industry expertise and chic dining design fused with Uechi’s unique and truly artistic flair for Japanese cuisine arrived with a bang, leaving Hollywood’s elite claiming for more and more. Rapidly amassing cult-like followers from local Angelenos, celebrities such as Jim Carey, Tyler the Creator, Tom Hanks, Kate Hudson, and more, the New York City location follows suit in keep true to the traditional codes of the beloved grub spot.

With locations set in Las Vegas, South Beach, Dubai, Kuwait, The Bahamas, and more, Katsuya’s New York City location officially marks the brand’s foray into America’s Northeast. “With Disruptive Restaurant Group, we set out to partner with some of the world’s top culinary talent and have continued to bring these collaborations to fruition,” explains Sam Nazarian. “I am thrilled to continue to expand our working partnership with Chef Katsuya, who so skillfully translates Japanese flavors and techniques to the American palate, and is steadfastly aligned with our vision to make Citizens at Manhattan west a culinary epicenter in New York.”  With the New York City location designed by architect David Rockwell and his firm Rockwell Group, the elegantly designed space with nearly 7,000 square feet, with inspiration sourcing from the rich traditions of Japanese craftsmanship and layout design concepts, features a robata and sushi bar within a large dining room, an adjoining 100-seat rooftop terrace, and two private dining spaces that fit up to 10 and 44 guests.

Featuring signature dishes including Crispy Rice, Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, Seared Tuna with Japanese Salsa, Albacore Sashimi with Crispy Onion, Salmon Caviar, as well as a selection of dishes specific to New York like Spiced Beef Toban, A5 Wagyu Sukiyaki, Manhattan Maki and Hiramasa Wara Yaki, Chef Katsuya remains ecstatic about the new home for the Katsuya chain, stating “We have been overwhelmed by the response to Katsuya across the US and are so grateful that our menu and design is resonating so strongly with diners.
