KENZO’s New Era Launches in Technicolor

KENZO’s FW19 fantasyland includes cameos by Hunter Schafer and Lindsey Wixson.

KENZO has undergone radical change this season: After Opening Ceremony founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim stepped down as directors in June, Lacoste’s Felipe Oliveira Baptista was christened the new creative chief, marking the beginning of a new era for the LVMH-owned fashion house. While Baptista’s first collection remains in the offing, the brand’s FW19 campaign is a color-saturated tapestry—a fitting visual beacon to project the start of a new chapter.

The second collaboration between KENZO and pop photog David LaChapelle, the campaign reads like a Parisian postcard from fashion’s cutting edge, with styling by Anna Trevelyan. The vibrant visuals and retro-tinted photography to tell a story of discovery, adventure, and wanderlust—the latest campaign to insist on eco-touristic, endless-summer energy for Fall/Winter via landscape-heavy motifs.

Adding to the summer buzz, the campaign features once-retired titan Lindsey Wixson alongside a quasi-newcomer—the model and actress Hunter Schafer, who recently made her V debut, discussing her dramatic HBO’s summer smash Euphoria. If her trajectory from activist-turned-model to prestige television star wasn’t dreamy enough, Schafer’s storyline in KENZO’s fantastical campaign suggests she’s only just begun to show off her true colors.
