Kim Kardashian West Spent the Day at San Quinton Prison
California’s latest and greatest criminal justice advocate met with Death Row inmate Kevin Cooper, leaving more convinced of his innocence than ever.
Most don’t know that over the past few months, Kim Kardashian West has been helping her lawyer, Britney K. Barnett, review and fight unjust convictions. Kardashian West and her lawyers have helped facilitate the release 17 inmates in only three months.
Kardashian West’s most recent pursuit is to exonerate Kevin Cooper who has been on death row since 1983. He was charged with the murder of four people, but has upheld a claim of innocence since his conviction. However, Cooper has exhausted all of his judicial appeals, so the only person who can grant a new DNA test is California’s Governor. This is what Kardashian West has been fighting for, Tweeting, “Governor Brown, please add Kevin Cooper to your legacy of smart, fair and thoughtful criminal justice reforms,” back in October 2018.
Since then California’s current Governor, Gavin Newsome, has authorized the DNA test, but the results have not been released yet. In the meantime, Kardashian West met with Cooper in person at San Quinton prison. The meeting lasted two hours, and as a result she is more convinced of his innocence than ever, according to TMZ.
And this case is not just another cause to Kim. She is truly committed to this criminal justice quest she has embarked on. According to Vogue, she is working through a process called “reading the law,” where she studies four hours a day and apprentices with a practicing lawyer in pursuit of passing the bar exam in four years. Looks like Kim Kardashian West is following in her father’s footsteps.
