Kim Kardashian’s Paris Robbery to Be Made a Film

A French graphic novel based on the 2016 robbery will be turned into a film.

Leave it to Kim Kardashian to influence yet another fashion trend: graphic novels. As if leaving her imprint in the pages federal law wasn’t enough, this time she has left a mark in historical fiction. In fact, she is going from reality television to the big screen. French artist, Joann Sfar, has penned and illustrated a cartoonish narrative loosely based on Kim Kardashian’s PTSD-provoking experience in Paris Fashion Week 2016 when she was robbed and held hostage at gunpoint. With that as Sfar’s backdrop, social topics like privilege, elitism, and women-targeted violence, discussed in the 130-page debut will be made into a film. Graphic novels are notorious for touching on less than savory issues—politics and religion are topical like Persepolis and Maus that talk about the Iranian crisis and Holocaust, respectively. Even Sesame Street has decided to introduce a new character, Karli, who is a conduit between the child audience and the “adult problem” known as addiction

The film, Fashion Week, has been in development since earlier 2019 but is still without an official release date. According to Sfar, the genre is comedic, described as providing “levity” to patriarchy’s demise. Think: The Scary Movie series, but with a more politically satirical twist. The plot is almost identical to Kardashian’s story, but with less mystery. There is a clear set of characters—a group of older adult robbers with fashion week as the backdrop to further their goal of pouncing on a female influencer. In 2016, a handful of suspects who posed as police officers were cordoned off and charged for robbing her of over $9 million in valuables, including the engagement ring given to her by Kanye West.

Sfar has no intention of casting an identical twin of Kim, though his cast will be international. In fact, he is searching less for her life’s double and more of someone who is her personality doppelgänger or spirit animal, someone who embodies her wherewithal. Luckily, the public will have some insight into the film beforehand. The novel has a tentative publication date in France for March 2020. Till this day, the French public still has a fascination with what this crisis that unfolded 3 years ago, and Sfar harps in on that truth, his story markedly more geared toward the lives of the socially exploited that are outside of the public eye, the robbers, more than the socialite herself.

If there is one thing we can ascertain, it is that there will nary be an objection from the Kardashian camp. After all, one of the most recent episodes touched on when Tristan Thompson took issue with West’s number, “Runaway” from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy released in 2010, as the prelude score to the unfolding of events dealing with him cheating on Khloe. In that same vein, Kim released her 2017 fragrances, “Crystal Gardenia,” “Crystal Gardenia Citrus” and “Crystal Gardenia Oud,” as a means of promoting “calm and healing.” All hail the concept of creative licensure.
