What a perfect life everyone seems to have on social media, with Facetuned bodies, weekly destination holidays and constant fun nights out. Let’s be honest, social media has given us a platform that allows us to portray, what we may call, our ideal lives which are free from hardships and sorrows. Unattainable and unrealistic expectations also parlay into anxiety and insecurity. Kylie Jenner is no exception to this phenomenon. Since the first episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the world has watched Kylie grow into the business mogul she is today: we have criticized her while simultaneously putting her on a pedestal. Kylie Jenner has been under the heat of the spotlight since she was ten and has received constant scrutiny. This morning, she spoke out.

She's become the most recent celebrity to continue the conversation of mental health,  and has used her platform to discuss her own personal struggles that have come with being under such a microscope. On her Instagram, she said, “I’m proud of myself, my heart, and my strength. growing up in the light with a million eyes on you just isn’t normal. I’ve lost friends along the way and I’ve lost myself too sometimes. my first tattoo was “sanity” to remind myself everyday to keep it. I’ve struggled with anxiety my whole young adult life and after my baby i dealt with all the internal ups and downs. I felt like i had to find myself completely again. I keep a whole lot to myself but just wanted to share and let you know I’m human. my life is not perfect and what you see here on social media is just the surface. be gentle with yourself, move on, and let go. we are all capable of great things, worthy of love, and allowed to express ourselves. do more of what makes you happy and be unapologetic. now is your season ✨ we all have a magnificent destiny.”

Kylie Jenner should be proud of herself. She has built a multimillion-dollar company, a beautiful baby, and love and support from her expansive, famous family. Her message is important: nurture yourself, be proud of your capabilities and unapologetically  who you are. Hopefully, her message inspires others to speak openly about the hardships and anxieties that we all endure.
