First discovered through the power of Instagram, and now as a fresh face on the male-modeling scene, Nacho Penín is already making his mark with his boy-next-door looks and charming personality. Within his first year of modeling, the industry newcomer has already garnered mesmerizing magazine covers, enviable editorials, and has even made his fashion runway debut at Versace’s Fall/Winter 2021 show. Now, after what has been a tumultuous past year, Penín is more than ready to take on the world.

Spanish V: If you had to pick just one, what singular message do you try to express with your work? What are you trying to tell people?

Nacho Penin: With my work, I try to show people the male beauty through my body and especially my feelings. Many times, the photos that are taken of the models are a mirror of their soul and of everything that is happening to them.

V: What is something that you feel is missing in today’s society?

NP: I think that today’s society has many shortcomings, but something I’ve been looking at is that nowadays people are constantly looking at what others have. For example, work studies, their car, but they do not look at what others are, such as good people, honest, sincere. Values that were abundant before are increasingly scarce today. From my point of view, as a model, I think that in the future, I could have an influence on young people and give them my point of view.

V: How has COVID and the ensuing lockdowns shaped you personally and professionally?

NP: COVID, in general, has affected modeling a lot, since now everything is slower and there is less work, besides that, it is more difficult to travel nowadays. Emotionally, COVID has also affected me a lot since social distancing and not being able to see people’s faces, see how they smile, etc.—it makes everything sadder.

V: What parts of Spanish culture make you feel proud to be a part of it?

NP: I am proud to belong to a culture in which good humor always prevails, more good emotions, and where people are always dancing. In general, the next generation comes with a lot of artists and I like that.

V: What does the future of Spain look like to you?

NP: I honestly see the future of Spain [as being] quite dark, but well, you never know—God willing it goes well.

V: How did you get discovered as a model? Were you nervous when you first started?

NP: I was discovered as a model following a post on Instagram that my mother agency fortunately saw and that’s where it all began. I’m not going to lie, when I had my first job I couldn’t even sleep the night before, and I was nervous but some great photos finally came out.

V: With the modeling industry constantly evolving, what do you think has changed for the better?

NP: Honestly, I just entered the world of modeling, but from what I understand today everything is more commercial and I think that an artistic part has been lost.

V: As the world reopens, what’s next for you? What are you most excited about?

NP: I see that little by little, COVID is ending and that makes me very happy because I know that now I will work a lot more and everything will be better.

Descubierto por primera vez a través del poder de Instagram, y ahora como un rostro fresco en la escena del modelaje masculino, Nacho Penín ya está dejando su huella con su apariencia de chico de al lado y su encantadora personalidad. Durante su primer año como modelo, el recién llegado a la industria ya ha cosechado portadas de revistas fascinantes, editoriales envidiables e incluso ha hecho su debut en la pasarela de moda en el desfile de Versace Otoño / Invierno 2021. Ahora, después de lo que ha sido un año pasado tumultuoso, Penín está más que listo para conquistar el mundo.

Spanish V: Si tuvieras que elegir solo uno, ¿qué mensaje singular intentas expresar con tu trabajo? ¿Qué intentas decirle a la gente?

Nacho Penin: Con mi trabajo trato de mostrarle a las personas la belleza masculina por medio de mi cuerpo y sobretodo mis sentimientos. Muchas veces las fotos que les sacan a los modelos son un espejo de su alma y de todo lo que les está ocurriendo.

V: ¿Qué es algo que cree que falta en la sociedad actual?

NP: Creo que a la sociedad actual tiene muchísimas carencias pero algo en lo que me he estado fijando es, en que hoy en día las personas constantemente están fijándose en lo que los demás tienen, ejemplo(el trabajo, estudios, coche…etc), pero no se fijan en lo que los demás son, ejemplo(buenas personas, honrado,sincero… etc) valores que antes eran abundantes y hoy en día cada vez son más escasos. Yo desde mi punto de modelo creo que en el futuro podría tener influencia en los jóvenes y darles mi punto de vista.

V: ¿Cree que España es hoy un destino creativo más popular que hace cinco o diez años?

NP: Pienso que España hace años era bastante más popular turísticamente, pero hoy en día es más creativa gracias a la juventud.

V: ¿Cómo le ha formado COVID y los consiguientes bloqueos personal y profesionalmente?

NP: El covid en general ha afectado muchísimo al modelaje ya que ahora todo va más lento y hay menos trabajo en general, además que es más difícil viajar hoy en día. Emocionalmente el covid también me ha afectado mucho ya que el distanciamiento social y no poderle ver la cara a las personas, ver cómo sonríen…etc, hace que todo sea más triste.

V: ¿Qué partes de la cultura española te hacen sentir orgulloso de formar parte de ella?

NP: Me siento orgulloso de pertenecer a una cultura en la que siempre impera el buen humor, más buenas emociones y dónde la gente siempre está bailando. En general la generación próxima viene con muchos artistas y eso me gusta.

V: ¿Cómo te parece el futuro de España? ¿Cómo ve el país cambiando y creciendo en los próximos años?

NP: El futuro de España sinceramente lo veo bastante negro, pero bueno nunca se sabe Dios quiera que vaya bien.

V: ¿Cómo te descubrieron como modelo?

NP: Me descubrieron como modelo a raíz de una publicación en Instagram que afortunadamente vio mi agencia madre y ahí comenzó todo. No voy a mentir cuando tuve mi primer trabajo, no pude ni dormir la noche anterior y estaba nervioso pero finalmente salieron unas fotos geniales.

V: Con la industria del modelaje en constante evolución, ¿qué cree que ha cambiado para mejor?

NP: Sinceramente justamente acabo de entrar al mundo del modelaje, pero según tengo entendido hoy en día todo es más comercial y pienso que se ha perdido una parte artística.

V: A medida que el mundo se reabre, ¿qué sigue para ti? ¿Qué es por lo que estás más emocionado?

NP: veo que poco a poco el covid se está acabando y eso me pone muy contento porque sé que ahora trabajaré muchísimo más y todo comenzará mejor.
