Lady Gaga to Play Harley Quinn in ‘Joker 2’

Lady Gaga will star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the “Joker 2” musical

Lady Gaga officially confirmed that she will star as Harley Quinn in the upcoming Todd Phillips-directed musical, Joker 2.

On Aug, 4, the singer and actress posted a teaser for the film, confirming both her casting and the film’s release date, now slated for Oct 4, 2024 (that’s exactly 5 years after the original). The teaser is set to the song “Cheek to Cheek,” which Gaga famously covered with musical icon Tony Bennett.

Speculation of Gaga’s role with the film, officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux, has been swirling since early June, when Variety reported that she’d been offered the role of the Joker’s love interest, Harley Quinn, just after Phillips posted the screenplay’s cover to his Instagram on June 7.

Gaga will star alongside Phoenix, who is returning as the Joker following his Oscar win for best actor in 2019’s iteration of the film, Joker. Joker was a smash-hit in the box office, earning $1 billion worldwide and quickly becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history.

Joker 2 will be Gaga’s third recent major film, following 2021’s House of Gucci and 2018’s remake of A Star Is Born, which earned her an Oscar nomination.
