With a history spanning 133 years, Lanvin writes a love letter to its founder Jeanne Lanvin in the form of its Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Following Bruno Sialelli’s departure, the in-house team plucks notes from the archives, creating a collection fueled with high-fashion silhouettes that combine contemporary and historical elements. Exuding timeless French style, Lanvin was inspired by occasions of the every day, including formal evening wear, tailored daywear, and social and cocktail attire.
The interwar years of the 1920s and 30s are reflected in house codes, such as the asymmetry of the “Les Trois Valses” dress or the “Coeur”, that has been reworked as a bolero with embroidery. The iconic “Robe de Style” silhouette is infused into dresses. Embellishments are in the form of pearls, buttons, and guipure.
With stylized surreal images lensed by Guy Bourdin, the collection incorporates menswear with traditional tailoring that references a sharp 1970s shoulder line. Elegant shirts are paired with coordinated full and short-length trousers and silk shorts.
Fabrics are fine and intricate, to create a bold look that blends casualwear and formalwear. Garments are lacerated and airy, and generously cut volumes add comfort and frivolity. Prints are painted in Art Nouveau and embroidered flowers on jacket lapels. The collection is doused in a combination of bold and pastel tones of blue, green, pink, red, grey, beige, white, and classic black.
Accessories accentuate the lookbook, with chic pieces including The Marguerite brooch, Cat Bag novelties reinvented in ombré or crystal-embellished, Séquence clutches worn with dual functionality, and footwear complete with masculine slippers and ballerinas.
In a perfect homage to Jeanne Lanvin, the house is undoubtedly constructing a unique aesthetic for the future of the brand.
