LaQuan Smith Brings up the Heat for Fall/Winter 2021
The new collection combines attitude and elegance in eye-catching designs.
Luxury designer LaQuan Smith has just unveiled his new daring creations for the Fall/Winter 2021 collection with a lookbook that exudes attitude and elegance at the same time. The new set features some of the designer’s signature details – seen in the previously ‘70s-inspired Spring/Summer 2021 presentation – in a predominantly warm, earthy palette with other designs in deep blue and shades of gray, black, and white.
The collection is a fearless contrast of textures and moods, featuring glossy and velvet fabrics. One of the most eye-catching looks combines a lustrous motorcycle jacket that almost looks like melting chocolate with matching brown and orange pants that come with a provocative cut-out detail at the back. A short red dress also features cut-out details at the waist, making the top look like a renovated bustier.
Sheer fabrics are also seen throughout the collection in high-collar and turtleneck blouses, jumpsuits, and dresses. A highlight is the burgundy zebra-print jumpsuit with velvet details and draped skirt. The velvet animal print motif is also featured on the blue long-sleeved turtleneck mini dress.
The bold sensuality of some designs is contrasted with more delicate details, especially the exaggerated puff shoulders featured in blouses and dresses.
Comfort, a theme that has been explored even deeper during quarantine, is brought to the collection with pieces in soft wool-looking fabrics, such as sweaters, skirts, coats, and loungewear. On the other end, tighter sequined designs look like flashy mirror mosaics. The “cracked” pencil skirt is balanced with a soft black blouse and beret.
