Latte Samuels Debuts Music Video for “I Said What I Said”
Situated in ‘70s New York, the video is both groovy and glamorous as R&B’s rising star Latte Samuels sports a slew of retro get ups.
Singer/songwriter Latte Samuels hails from New York City, with Jamaican roots and a childhood spent listening to Whitney Houston all fusing to form her distinct sound. Samuels’ music is stylistically grounded in alternative, jazz, neo-soul, and R&B, as heard on her 2019 debut EP Unruly.
“I Said What I Said” is the opening track of Unruly, and is now joined by a music video that glimmers with the grooviness of New York in the ‘70s while Samuels boldly stars as a strong, care-free woman. The vintage-themed story that the video tells is one of a woman who refuses to be reliant on men and plays by her own rules. “I do what I please, I do it with ease,” sings Samuels, who is credited along with the videos’ director, creative director, and stylist.
Filmed at New York’s popular East Village bar Short Stories and the R & Company Gallery in Tribeca, the video was directed by HBO featured filmmaker Andrew Garcia with a set from French interior designer Pierre Yovanovitch. Samuels’ wardrobe brings the vision of “I Said What I Said” into complete fruition while wearing garments such as an orange Saks Potts fur-trimmed coat, Vivienne Westwood necklaces, and a denim set from Alexander Wang.
