Thom Browne & Asics Chronicle New Sneaker Capsule in Tokyo with Limited-Edition Zine

Titled “The Working Hour,” photographer Robbie Lawrence captures the Thom Browne and Asics sneaker collaboration across Tokyo
To mark the launch of the new sneaker capsule between Thom Browne and Asics, photographer Robbie Lawrence turned his lens to Tokyo. Against the backdrop of the bustling city, Lawrence captured a series of Tokyoites dressed in Thom Browne’s signature gray suiting, paired with the new sneakers. The zine project, titled “The Working Hour,” thus unfolds in a fitting setting: a city in constant motion, flooded with suit-clad salarymen commuting to and from work.

The images shift between black-and-white and faded, nostalgic tones. Lawrence followed his cast over two days of daily life in Japan, capturing moments of them standing amid crowded streets, slicking back gel-glossed hair, and moving through the neon-lit city. Close-up shots of brisk, purposeful steps reveal sleek Asics sneakers, punctuated by Thom Browne’s signature three stripes at the heel. The printed matter becomes a study of the body in motion, reflecting Browne and Lawrence’s shared interest in form and performance in this first collaboration.

Elsewhere, texts by writer and director Durga Chew-Bose are peppered throughout. They chronicle the origins of the collaboration, Browne’s affinity for running, and the steady passage of time in a city like Tokyo.
As for the launch, the project lands in London. Debuting at the Institute of Contemporary Arts this Friday, the zine will be presented in a gallery-style opening before hitting New York later this month.
