Manipulations of time and space pervade Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2025 campaign, starring Blackpink’s Lisa and actress Saoirse Ronan. In a stunning set of visuals juxtaposing each talent against a backdrop of otherworldly landscapes, each shot is not too far off from a glimpse of Modern Renaissance. Following the latest runway collection of Nicolas Ghesquière, (the Maison’s Artistic Director of Women’s collections) the campaign incorporates a collection of atmospheric paintings from conceptual artist Laurent Grasso, parrelling Ghesquière’s fascinations with the temporal.
Ghesquière, a fellow fanatic of the fantastical, similarly explored alternate means of sculpting the world’s natural anachronisms, and his latest campaign marks the second time he has incorporated Grasso into Louis Vuitton’s vision. Ghesquière previously merged Grasso’s designs with his own pieces, closing his SS25 runway show with a series of three looks infused with the French artist’s ethereal patterns ー picture floating spheres and fiery torches ー and distinct mysticism.
Clad in statement looks from the SS25 runway show, House Ambassadors Lisa and Saoirse Ronan are photographed by Steven Meisel in moments of dynamism. Caught in the midst of slight movement and immersed in the naturalistic scenes of slightly spooky semblance, each talent personifies both the whimsy and the wild inherent to Grasso’s pieces.
Three new works from Grasso’s series Studies into the Past appear in the campaign, each a representation of the natural world imbued with a somewhat fantastical twist. Untouched vistas are interrupted by the outline of a black rectangle, distorting the boundaries of a natural world otherwise pristine and introducing a surrealistic phenomenon of temporal manipulation. Painted in oil on wood and inspired by painting techniques of historical artists past, Grasso’s works illustrate the ways in which errors of space and time can converge to form a singular creative narrative and artistic expression.
