Teasing the April 14th reveal of their women’s Winter 2021 collection, Celine has posted a carousel of some pensive, delphic images to the the house’s Instagram account. Dark waters, strings of a harp, empty country roads seductively leading to more of the same – images that seem to amplify the silence they were certainly captured in, and speak to the grabbed moments of a story Hedi Slimane is drawing for his Celine. 

Alongside a shot of evening waters wafting beneath a gilded languorous statue, sculpted of the Grecian classical ideal ethos, is a French poem far louder than the image itself. A cursory translation opens a window into Slimane’s vision – French at its core, very much in step with the times. 

“Nothing is chagrining me, adrenaline supports my feelings,” in the first stanza. “Amphetamine in my chest I am fire and blood crystal… I hunt the spleen shiny like a teen,” in the second. It’s spooky and ambiguous, while also seamlessly shoring up the tenor of Celine’s Men’s Winter 2021 season: “Teen Knight Poem.”

Perhaps it won’t be Spring/Summer 2021’s Kaia Gerber pivoting a pack of Angelenos around Monaco’s Stade Louis II stadium, but something a bit edgier, darker, an occult fashion moment in its own right.
