Loewe Drops Ken Price-Inspired Capsule Collection

Inspired by a series of Price’s ceramic plates from the 80s, the capsule collection imbues color and playfulness with sophistication and high fashion.

In a seasonal collection inspired by American artist Ken Price, Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe is introducing a colorful and playful new line of apparel and accessories.

The collection, dropping November 12, is evocative of the 1960s artwork of Ken Price—while he was committed to clay as a material, his paintings are vivid and vibrant, fun and amorphous, adding a much-needed dose of color and life to an otherwise less inspired backdrop.

Creative director Jonathan Anderson took inspiration from a series of 20 unique, hand-painted ceramic plates made by Price for Newport Beach’s La Palme restaurant in the early ‘80s and applied them to the collection. Motifs from the La Palme, Easter Island, and LA series make appearances in the new Loewe collection, inspiring prints, leather marquetry, intarsia, and accessories.

“I have always been drawn to artists whose practices expand, push and challenge conventions,” said Anderson. “Over the past few years, the Loewe capsule collection, which comes out right before the holiday season, has allowed me to delve into my passion for art imbued with the materiality of craft. I have long admired the work of Ken Price who once said, ‘We’ve been cited as the people who broke away from the crafts hierarchy and substituted so-called ‘total freedom!’ This is utterly inspiring. Price is the subject of this year’s collection.”

Price’s colorful drawings mark Loewe’s silk shirts, sweatshirts, and tees, but also bring the luxury label to another terrain by printing the patterns on the likes of washed denim trousers, drawstring skirts, and shirts. They evoke sunniness, brightness, a casual and laid-back atmosphere dotted with Price’s pops of color and imaginative, free spirit.

Similar motifs turn into intarsia on cashmere cardigans and jumpers, while unisex hoodies, blousons, silk twill scarves, palm-shaped scarves, and long mohair scarves provide unique statement pieces to elevate and complete any bold and vibrant look.

Known for its luxury leather bags, Loewe does not disappoint when it comes to incorporating Price’s art into leather icons; from the balloon to the hammock or the puzzle, Loewe bags have been designed in leather marquetry, a masterful technique which sets the brand apart.
