Loewe Takes the Well-Rounded Approach for Women’s Spring/Summer 2021
Loewe Women’s Spring/Summer 2021 line-up is a feat of exaggerated silhouettes and patterns.
For this Spring/Summer 2021 season, one which has been full of experimentation with new silhouettes and shapes, Loewe takes it the extra mile. For their new women’s collection, titled “Show-on-the-Wall,” the brand will provide boxes containing materials like posters, wallpapers, and materials with which to put them up on the wall as per the recipient’s design. Inspired by British artist Anthea Hamilton, these posters will feature looks from the new collection.
This season’s collection favors going big with shapes and patterns above all else. There’s florals and there’s ruching, with balloon sleeves and skirts, neckerchief hems, hoops, and crinolines. The colors are more on the muted site, which allows for the garments and their exceptionally tailored design to speak for themselves. The collection comes with new accessories as well, featuring shell bags and square baskets, shoes, and jewelry.
As a soundtrack to the exhibition, Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson commissioned British Asian music producer Adam Bainbridge, aka KINDNESS, to create an interpretation of Thomas Tallis’ “Spem in Alium,” a Renaissance motet (choral music). Bainbridge mixed a version of the composition performed by The Tallis Scholars, with the help of American vocalist Hanna Benn, French-Malagasy composer Mathis Picard, jazz vocalist Vuyo Sotashe, and Swedish songstress Robyn.
Along with “Spem in Alium,” Loewe has been unravelling the roll-out for this collection step-by-step with a variety of digital productions. They’ve filmed editorial shoots in London and Paris, released a documentary about Hamilton herself, and a walkthrough of the collection with Anderson.
