In an exclusive premiere, V is debuting a new track from alt-pop songstress Lola Blanc to vamp up your Tuesday. Lola's new single "Don't Say You Do" comes from her upcoming EP The Magic, and is a perfect ballad about distrust and dishonesty.
The single is riddled with lyrics of pain, most notably in the chorus, with the brutally honest plea, "If you don't feel it/Don't you fake it/If it's a lie/Baby, don't say it's true." The lyrics are performed with gripping anxiousness, and sudden somber relief, which undoubtedly mirrors the catharsis of long-awaited truth.
The catalyst for the emotional song may or may not be about her (maybe) ex, goth-rocker Marilyn Manson, but the singer isn't saying. Nothing is quite confirmed, but plenty can be inferred. Lola does say, though, that she drew on her upbringing in the Mormon church as inspiration for the track, particularly a con man within the community. She wrote about the experience with that "false idol" for Vice.
Whatever the track's influences may be, the message is universal, and Lola Blanc is one to watch.
