Louis Vuitton pays tribute to Frank Gehry at Art Basel Hong Kong

The Maison presents a compelling tribute to one of the most influential architects of our time through a retrospective booth
At the 2026 edition of Art Basel Hong Kong, Louis Vuitton highlights a creative partnership spanning more than two decades with architect Frank Gehry. Born in 1929, Gehry is a Canadian-American architect renowned for his bold, sculptural approach and innovative use of materials, rising to international prominence with landmarks such as the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Fondation Louis Vuitton. Awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1989, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential architects of his generation.

This long-standing collaboration, which began in 2001, has unfolded across both architecture and design and culminated in the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, an architectural landmark inaugurated in 2014. Conceived as a luminous composition of glass sails, the building reflects Gehry’s enduring exploration of movement, light, and transparency. That same year, his work with the House expanded into fashion with the “Twisted Box” bag, marking the beginning of an ongoing dialogue between architecture and craftsmanship.
Over the years, this partnership has evolved into a series of bold and imaginative projects. From the Louis Vuitton Maison Seoul, inspired by both the Fondation and traditional Korean architecture, to artistic reinterpretations of the iconic Louis Vuitton trunk, Gehry has continuously redefined the boundaries between art and luxury. His contributions also extend to the Maison’s fragrance universe, notably through the sculptural Murano glass Blossom stoppers, as well as to watchmaking with the Tambour timepiece, which combines horological precision with architectural form.
Now, set within the prestigious Hong Kong Convention Centre, the exhibition offers visitors an immersive journey through Gehry’s visionary universe. Organized chronologically across eight thematic chapters, the booth highlights his most iconic architectural works alongside collaborative creations for Louis Vuitton. Including limited-edition handbags, fragrance bottles, and timepieces. Likewise, detailed maquettes and artworks provide insight into Gehry’s experimental process, revealing the curiosity and innovation that define his legacy.

A key part of the exhibition is the Louis Vuitton x Frank Gehry handbag collection, first shown at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2023. The collection includes ten limited-edition pieces that turn Gehry’s signature ideas, like fluid shapes, unique materials, and nature-inspired forms, into wearable designs.

Some bags, like the Capucines MM Concrete Pockets, are inspired by the textures of his buildings, while others, such as the Floating Fish and Bear With Us Clutch, show his more playful, animal-inspired side.
Beyond the objects themselves, the exhibition highlights a shared philosophy between Louis Vuitton and Gehry, rooted in innovation, craftsmanship, and creativity. Gehry’s constant curiosity and belief in learning through exploration echo the House’s long-standing spirit of reinvention. As a Show Partner of Art Basel Hong Kong, Louis Vuitton further affirms its connection to the global art world, placing this tribute within one of today’s most influential contemporary art platforms. Running from March 27 to 29, 2026, the exhibition invites visitors to explore a body of work that moves across disciplines and challenges traditional boundaries.
