Louis Vuitton releases Pre-Fall 2021 Louis Vuitton x NBA Collection II
LV x NBA have released their second collaboration together, this time with a whole lot more
Following Louis Vuitton’s first collaborative collection with the National Basketball Association, the pair have released a second collection with a complete wardrobe that follow three dress modes of a basketball player from travel to game to press conference.
Louis Vuitton men’s artistic director Virgil Abloh fused Louis Vuitton and NBA trademarks, specifically focused on the 1990s’ basketball mania, to create a collection that celebrates pop culture, fashion, and sports. Select pieces in the collection were created alongside designer Don Crawley, which includes a blouson, shorts, and a Keepall with NBA iconography.
The travel side of the collection focuses on casual wear with a blouson and trouser quilted in the Louis Vuitton floral motif, a hoodie covered in the LV logo, and a technical parka with performance trousers. Inspired by the game of basketball, shirts and shorts have graphic multi-color letters that spell out Louis Vuitton. And for the press conference aspect of the collection has formal wear meet with ‘90s sensibility in a boxy black suit and overcoat as well as graphic embellished leather bomber jackets.
Bags and now ball pouches and basketball carries have a basketball-net detailing and the NBA insignia. There is also a Keepall in black embossed Monogram with red python inlays and this collection debuts a line of leather bags that evoke the texture of a basketball.
As a tribute to the jewelry worn by ‘90s basketball players, the collection includes chain necklaces and ring with the LVxNBA logo. One necklace has the NBA trophy with Louis Vuitton logos sprinkled onto it. The collection also features lifestyle objects from a blanket to a cushion in wool and cashmere.
But the ultimate emblem of their collaboration, Louis Vuitton has created their first-ever basketballs. Designed by Abloh, the limited-edition balls were produced by Wilson Sporting Goods Co, they are adorned with its logos and the NBA insignia.
The Louis Vuitton x NBA Capsule Collection II is available in stores and online at LouisVuitton.com.
