Louis Vuitton Releases SS27 Trunk Edition

The menswear capsulle, designed by the creative director of menswear, Pharrell Williams, has a campaign starring actor and brand ambassador Callum Turner
Heritage is a word often recklessly tossed around in the fashion space. This is not to say that any creatives ought to ignore their own achievements and traditions when creating a brand, or that there is only one label worthy of possessing a heritage. But if there was ever an appropriate time to evoke the word, it would be the case of Louis Vuitton. Since its foundation in 1854 as a Parisian trunk-maker, Louis Vuitton has always been elegance-oriented. The trunk was the brand’s first creation, and nearly two centuries later, they’ve named a line after it.
The latest Trunk Edition presents an unintimidating selection of menswear. With minimal branding, the emphasis is placed on form and fabrication. The accompanying campaign stars actor and Louis Vuitton brand ambassador Callum Turner. Photographed by Gregory Harris, Turner is captured as an embodiment of the modern gentleman. From sinking a putt in a New York City apartment to thoughtfully consuming the contents of a daily newspaper, Turner’s character is developed through both the pieces he wears and how they work with his body and lifestyle.

As for the garments themselves, a classic approach to shirting and footwear is demonstrated throughout. An indigo-washed denim is loosely cut and high-waisted, to appear almost like trousers. Workwear concepts are threaded throughout the business-appropriate looks, only withheld completely in the suiting.
The capsule understands Louis Vuitton. Though it is not an homage to every era and every design that the house has ever produced, it encapsulates an energy that Louis Vuitton has held a cultural monopoly over for over a century. The collection is both self-aware and playful. Louis Vuitton twists a practically ironic archetype of the “contemporary businessman” into a world built around one ideal: the elevated day-to-day.
