King of purple, Prince is getting his most revered shade immortalized by Pantone, who have just announced "Love Symbol #2" to honor the late iconic singer. Based off his favorite Yamaha piano, the shade is being used by the official Prince estate across all of his media and branding.

The name of the color pays homage to the unpronounceable glyph the singer changed his name to (called "Love Symbol #2"), in order to get out of a contract dispute. Pantone's Laurie Pressmen released this statement: "A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince's distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince's unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself."

The announcement is on the heels of the 30th anniversary of the deluxe edition of Purple Rain, perhaps one of Prince's most recognized albums. See Pantone's swatch of the official color below.
