A boy becomes a man in the latest single from UK rapper Loyle Carner. The video, which premiered today, shows the rapper growing from a young boy into the musician he is now. It was directed by Carner and his brother Ryan, The Coyle-Larner Brothers. They enlisted the help of Hamilton stage team members to pull off thi one, continuous shot music video.

“It’s really just about what it is to be black and white, in a world where you pretty much have to be one or the other,” said Carner.

The track features a beat by producer Madlib, who Carner calls his “musical hero.” Over the expertly laid track, Carner’s smooth flow tells a story of racial tensions and personal growth.

“It hurts the way I felt about my race back then, is the same way I feel now. Nothings changed since my last entry, nothing’s changed since the last century,” said Carner. “I hope that soon this song is nothing more than a reminder of a different time, and collectively we’re able to move forward to a time of more respect, acceptance, and understanding.”

Madlib is also set to be a featured artist on the BBC 6 Artist In Residence show that Carner recently began hosting. The first episode focused on the long career of fellow rapper Kanye West, and is now available on BBCSounds.
