Marc Jacobs Gets Acting Lessons in Givenchy S/S 2020 Campaign

Marc Jacobs and Charlotte Rampling star in the endlessly elegant Givenchy Spring Summer 2020 campaign.

In a Givenchy campaign that blends Parisian and New York attitudes from the 90s, Swinging 60s arthouse actress Charlotte Rampling gives Marc Jacobs acting lessons. Gender norms are dismantled with moments where Jacobs wears Givenchy heels and an eclectic, jacquard suit meanwhile Rampling sports a bold plaid blazer with identical capris over a black turtleneck. The pair both embody their respective styles; Jacobs’ being more outlandish and feminine than Rampling’s chic mix of masculine with feminine.

“The series honors the ‘Givenchy sitting’ style of portraiture, a celebration of strength, wit and an innate sense of elegance,” Givenchy said of the campaign.

With photography by Craig McDean and art direction from Clare Waight Keller, Givenchy’s Spring Summer 2020 campaign is nostalgic and individual as it celebrates a sense of liberation. During the acting lessons, Rampling answers a Givenchy heel phone and hands it to Jacobs, who says “I can’t talk right now darling. I’m having an acting lesson,” before tossing the shoe on the floor.
