VMAGAZINE: What can viewers expect from the Spring 2022 collection and its references?

Marcell Pustul: The Spring/Summer 2022 Collection is a lot about shape, silhouettes and volume. I was inspired by the 80s, one of the most eclectic decades in fashion. From shoulder pads, power suits, puffy sleeves and high-waisted jeans – old favorites are back again.

V: Can you tell us about the vibe of the show? What can viewers expect?

MP: It’s going to be very energetic, warm, vivid and strong! One special color will set the tone for the collection’s energy.

V: What are some key aspects you’ve taken into account when developing the SS22?

MP: The creation process was a constant conversation between past and present. In many ways, it felt like going back to the beginning for me. The ’80s were a decade of the power dresser but also of punks who used style as a vehicle of empowerment and self-expression. The SS22 collection is about that: clothes that make you feel powerful.

V: Could you tell me about some of the key pieces in the collection? Anything you believe the public will flock to most?

MP: My absolute key piece are the power suits we designed in different colors because suits give you confidence to raise your shoulders! They symbolize power.

V: What are some prominent silhouettes?

MP: Everything arrives bigger and bolder, often coupled with punk-pop references like leather and denim pieces. I’ve experimented with oversized silhouettes and especially its emphasis on the shoulders and cloud-like sleeves.

V: Can you speak on some of the patterns and colors within this collection?

MP: The collection celebrates the decade’s bold graphics. We will introduce 6 different prints. The color palette of the collection is very summery, many pastel shades, coral, orange but also some darker Marcell von Berlin colors like navy and dark green.

V: Why do you think this collection is important now and what do you think it represents?

MP: The bold silhouettes, bright colors, and zany prints of the decade are here to fulfill the post-lockdown desire for fashion that is fun, full of energy, and entirely optimistic.

V: What do you foresee for the future of MARCELL VON BERLIN?

MP: For the future, I wish that we all come out of this pandemic healthy and that I can continue to do what I love –  creating fashion and having an impact with it. Presented at James Goldstein Residence, the runway show of the designer who continues to grow will take place on stage to reconnect with tastemakers and to enjoy seeing the motion of clothes through the catwalk.
