After attending the Philipp Plein Resort 2019 show at Cannes Film Festival yesterday, rising model Mariah Strongin shares her experience exclusively to V.

Let’s be honest, the Cannes Film Festival is an event everyone in all entertainment industries — film, TV, music, and fashion —attends or dreams of attending. I learned about Cannes later in my career after signing with IMG Models, but it became a dream very quickly.  Thoughts have power, and as soon as I started thinking about Cannes, I was invited to attend the Philipp Plein show.

I have been working in Europe since early April and popped home for a shoot in New York this week. After a seven-hour flight back to Milan and a subsequent three-and-a-half hour drive from Malpensa, I arrived in Cannes. Wow is all I could say. The South of France is beautiful.

I changed into my perfectly shaped Milly outfit in a scenic boutique cafe, ate a delectable quiche, and was on my way to the Philipp Plein show.  As expected, on the red carpet, I was overwhelmed by the presence of many fashion icons, including Philipp himself. Though he was obviously busy and in a rush to beat the rain, he took the time to say hello to a "new face". It was much appreciated and unexpected.

Being that I am from Oregon and grew up barrel racing horses in rodeos, the 1980's Dynasty-inspired runway and Philipp's cowboy hat addition hit home and completely won me over. As always at runway shows, I found some designs that I will be putting in my closet.  The pieces that stood out the most to me were Philipp’s exotic leopard, flare-ruffled pant worn by Noel Capri, a beautiful aqua dress that Hannah Ferguson wore, a strappy, sheer elegant dress worn by Winnie Harlow, and sexy bikinis strutted by Alessandra Ambrosio and Sara Sampaio. Of course, you couldn't miss his always super strong leathers.

It started to rain, and though we were under the cover, his designs kept my eyes on the runway.  As he took his finale walk, everyone gave a deserved standing ovation. The rumors I had heard about his extravagant shows around the world were proven true, and I could not have been more excited to be apart of it.
