V’s crystal ball has made some uncanny predictions, and the latest one is placing Welsh singer MARINA’s new single, “CUNTISSIMO”, at the top of this summer’s anthem list. A campy ballad in defense of female autonomy (‘Oh baby, it’s a way of life / Don’t let nobody dull my shine / This ain’t no Bonnie and Clyde / But you can be my Thelma on the side’), the song is grounded in the steadfast pulses of electrapop with touches of Victorian-era lilts.

“So often, women don’t think they’re allowed to feel their sexuality in a way that doesn’t involve how it looks for men,” says MARINA. “They feel that it’s been co-opted – I would love to be able to free younger women of that, the feeling that our bodies don’t quite belong to us.” And “CUNTISSIMO,” an ode to unapologetic self-sovereignty, has those sentiments penned in every word.

The single comes as the third tune to be released off of the singer and author’s (yes, author) sixth studio album, “Princess of Power,” dropping June 6th. It follows the seductive pop anthem that is “Cupid’s Girl,” a psychedelic synthy, nymphy pop song warning of an irresistible feminine allure.

MARINA, formerly known as Marina and the Diamonds, burst onto the music scene in 2009, eventually releasing five acclaimed albums, including Electra Heart (2012) which debuted at Number 1 on the UK’s Official Charts. Her most recent discography, Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land (2021), was suffused with an emotionality the singer-songwriter frequently channels in each of her musical brain childs, but V have a feeling “Princess of Power” will be a little less sentimental and a lot more siren pop.
