Stepping off the runway and onto the streets of Paris, the newest collection from French fashion designer Marine Serre is delectably presented in an industrial venue packed with shops, a large food hall, bars, and a radio, fit for a fun fashion experience. The ambiance was decorated with suspended spheres of light recalling cycles of the moon, echoed to the label, as well as hints of graceful feminine elegance.
In the intimate outdoor setting, guests were able to witness the unveiling of the collection as if they were simply observing people pass by their café table, enjoying a cup of coffee while the hustle and bustle of Paris exists all around them.
Comprised of 43 transitional looks, the collection reflects the hybrid codes of the brand, beginning with elegant black diaphanous ensembles painted with a reinterpreted All Over Moon pattern. Silhouettes are both masculine and feminine, with one look pairing a men’s shirt and a pair of knee boots, along with sartorial tailoring, and a brand-new mesh motif, suitable for layering.
Workwear is turned chic, complemented by bold python prints adorned with delicate lace details. The collection provides a unique iteration of the classic uniform, adorned with charmed necklaces and new timeless tailoring Moon Diamant looks in black and a fresh navy blue.
Sportswear-approved corset dresses were fitted and ruched accentuating the female figure, along with cozy knits and a sequence of aesthetically draped upcycled scarf pieces. Denim was in the form of jeans, dipped in the signature Marine Serre moon emblem.
While the collection begins with a more mundane palette, a splash of color can be spotted in red and fuchsia, smeared onto fluid silhouettes that integrate some of the house’s signature materials including moire, satin-like-viscose, and dreamy silks.
Oddities are at the forefront of the collection, with quirky fork-head earrings and a necklace made of upcycled key fobs making an unusually engaging addition. Colorful brooches are embossed onto garments, while marketplace accessories like floral bouquets, grocery bags, and even babies are carried around the makeshift catwalk.
Marine Serre Fall/Winter 2024 provided a fresh (groceries included) perspective on taking fashion, and the average presentation to the next level, which is what V anticipate the designer will continue to do in seasons to come.
