Figure skating is typically not a topic at the tip of America's tongue, but Adam Rippon is changing that right now. On Sunday night, he demanded undivided attention when he competed in his first Olympics for Team USA at 28 years old. Rippon won bronze, and less significantly (depending on how you look at it), he also won Twitter. It can't go unsaid that Rippon is the first ever openly gay athlete to make the U.S. Winter Olympics team. (Skier Gus Kenworthy became the second shortly after, and they became best friends at the Opening Ceremony.) Rippon is more than that, though, and he proved as much on the ice on Sunday night.

The "elder statesman" of the figure skating team dazzled —literally — in his ice blue bedazzled costume and figuratively in routine. Rippon scored 172.98 for his free skate and, in the process, earned eight points for Team USA. His performance led lots of new fans to Rippon's Twitter account, where they found hilarious quips about eyebrows and photoshoots in Kohl's parking lot. Check out some of the best Twitter reactions to Rippon's Olympic debut below.
