Memphis Milano X Saint Laurent Rive Droite
Yves Saint Laurent has collaborated with an Italian design and architecture group
Yves Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello has collaborated with Italian design and architecture group, Memphis, which celebrates in 2021 its 40th Anniversary, as part of the Saint Laurent Rive Droite project.
Vaccarello will be celebrating the collection by hosting an exhibition of pieces such as the RING bed designed by Masanori Umeda, the CARLTON room divider by Ettore Sottsass, and RIVIERA chairs designed by MicheleDe Lucchi in 1981.
Inspired by the graphic and playful furnitures, Vaccarello created an exclusive Saint Laurent capsule consisting of two multicolored checkerboard hoodies, two dresses, one shirt and two pairs of sneakers. Each piece takes direct inspiration from the furniture.
Memphis’ pieces include combinations of leopard print and graphic black and white patterns on a vase while the Saint Laurent capsule shares the same color and pattern scheme but with added colors of yellow and pink.
The exhibition will take place from May 19 through June 23 in both Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores in Paris and Los Angeles displaying ashtrays, vases, plates, glasses, decorations and textile accessories including pouches and scarves. There will also be a selection of rare books representing the history and works of Memphis available.
