Micaiah Carter’s “American Black Beauty”: A Representational Exhibition
Micaiah Carter’s first solo exhibition, “American Black Beauty” highlights his father’s influences and the need for Black, mainstream representation.

Micaiah Carter’s American Black Beauty the highly acclaimed photographer’s first, solo exhibition show with SN37 gallery at Seaport in New York City will debut starting February 11th to March 27th. This exhibit specifically highlights Micaiah’s work in all facets including fashion and personal works along with archival ones inspired by his late father, a former Vietnam veteran who passed away of prostate cancer last year. These conceptualizations symbolize an expressive echo to his father’s passing, a dear figure who supported Micaiah’s works and played a significant role in his life.
Micaiah Carter’s American Black Beauty encompass deeply introspective compositions, its name visually citing Micaiah’s longing to recognize his own beauty and the way in which he is represented in society as a Black man. Micaiah expresses this exhibition as an introductory signifier to his personal outlook of his creations and MO when it comes to approaching them. The haute couture pictures and photographs of Black children and young, familial individuals within this exhibition, speaks to the need for more Black mainstream representation, a calling Micaiah desires for others and young Black children, like his niece, to feel.
