Michael Kors Pre Fall
Text: Christopher Barnard
The references for Michael Kors' Pre-Fall were Liz Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and other 1950s sexpots simmering below the surface of the era's conservatism (he name-checked Ava Gardner and Dorothy Dandridge). These days you can’t bring up La Liz without La Lohan, and Kors was quick to mention he did see the movie (reserving any cinematic judgement), and that he and L.L. were coincidently from the same sleepy corner of Long Island—diplomatic deflection. The Liz incarnation Kors had in mind was V’s current coverg girl, Scarlett Johannsson, who will be reprising Taylor’s role of Cat's Maggie next season on Broadway. “All of those cigarettes, and that BODY.”
The sheaths, shifts and separates were decidedly Korsian in their earnest conjuring of a quintessential American moment, with great names like "Dirty Donna Reed" and "Widow Picking Up the Check." Broads are back.
