Michelle Obama Enlists “The Voting Squad” to Co-Chair Voter Outreach Organization

The former First Lady is making major strides for voter representation with the When We All Vote initiative.

Michelle Obama launched the national, non-partisan organization When We Vote last year to raise awareness for voter registration and to “close the race and age voting gap by changing the culture around voting, harnessing grassroots energy, and through strategic partnerships to reach every American.” As part of the initial launch campaign, the former First Lady enlisted a stellar roster of co-chairs including Janelle Monae, Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Chris Paul. This year, Mrs. Obama crafted “The Voting Squad”, a team comprising of the debut celebrity co-chairs as well an entirely new superstar ensemble featuring Selena Gomez, Megan Rapinoe, Shonda Rhimes, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, Rita Wilson, and Liza Koshy. A valiant effort, this star-studded campaign is sure to ignite societies to register and vote in the upcoming elections.

“I’m excited to empower my audience in the way I’ve been inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama and the mission of When We All Vote,” Koshy explained in a statement. “[Mrs. Obama’s] vision is contagious, and I’m ready to help spread the word that we all can and should be heard. The goal is for ALL to feel the utmost pride and preparation, so WE can cast our votes with our future in mind.”

There’s less than a year until the 2020 general election, so Mrs. Obama and her voting squad’s diligent work is absolutely imperative, now more than ever. Millennials and Gen Z will have the largest combined voice in the next election, and it’s time for both younger generations to use that collective voice to unify efforts towards making a difference. Mrs. Obama’s power-packed team is urging people to form their own “voting squads”, which the organizations explain are “volunteer groups aimed at getting friends, family, classmates, and community registered and ready to vote”.
