V Legend Miley Cyrus turns 27 today, and we’re paying respect to one of pop culture’s most unpredictable and effervescent icons with a trip through our archives. When a still-transforming Cyrus first arrived at V’s offices in 2013 to discuss a cover, skepticism aired the office as to how the fresh Disney star would successfully depart from the channel’s innocent identity. However, within seconds of meeting, Cyrus proved herself a professional businesswoman alongside her outlandishly entertaining performance personality. When the photos arrived in the editors’ hands, any left-over anxiety was quelled with one glance. Upon the cover’s success, V and the dominating pop star formed a powerful relationship, showcased over several years of editorial artistry.

Take a look through each of Miley’s V features in celebration of her 27th below.

V83: GO THE EXTRA MILEY!

Amidst her transformation into the BANGERZ-era, Miley appeared on her first cover for V83. Showcasing a scandalous brand and a fierce new look, the “Wrecking Ball” singer took the world by storm as she introduced a new identity.

V91: WHY MILEY LOVES TO PROVOKE

A provocateur, Cyrus certainly isn’t afraid to speak her mind. While some might deem that a negative quality, V sees her blunt honesty as both refreshing and necessary. Across a spread of colorfully compatible imagery in V91, Cyrus’ star power surely shines through.

V93: DIARY OF A DIRTY HIPPIE

For V93, Cyrus initiated a series of her own polaroid photographs and accompanying captions titled Diary of a Dirty Hippie. Writing entries signed as Dirty Hippie, the pop superstar gives V an inside look on what it means to be Miley Cyrus.
